T In The Park bosses speak out over bird flu fears

The discovery of the virus in Scotland has caused concern

T In The Park organisers have insisted that there is “no threat” of this year’s bash being cancelled over bird flu fears.

Last week a dead swan found to have the HN51 strain of avian flu was found in Fife, a neighbouring county to T In The Park’s Perthshire base. This has led to speculation that the 2006 event may have to be axed.

However, a spokesperson for the event said: “As Avian Influenza is a disease of birds and not humans, we can confirm that there is no threat of T In The Park being cancelled or moved. Any safety measures being put in place by the Scottish executive related to Avian Influenza are to limit movement of birds and not people in accordance with the EC agreed measures.

“However, like all other major entertainment and sporting events and gatherings, T In The Park is monitoring the situation and is liaising with the relevant agricultural and governmental authorities for advice.”

Meanwhile, new additions to the line-up for this year’s T In The Park include Dirty Pretty Things, The Futureheads and We Are Scientists.
