The tenth MTV EUROPE MUSIC AWARDS will be held in Scotland, for the first time since the launch of the ceremony in 1994.
The awards show will take place in a 6,000 capacity venue specially built for the event at Western Harbour, Leith, in Edinburgh on November 6.
President and Chief Executive of MTV Networks, Brent Hansen, said: “We have wanted to bring the show to Scotland for a long time and this year’s event will be extra special as we will be celebrating ten years of the MTV Europe Music Awards.
“This unique venue, combined with the vibrancy and energy of Edinburgh, promise one of our most electrifying shows ever.”
Last year’s show in Barcelona became the most voted-for event in European TV history, generating over 13 million online votes. Eminem won the Best Male category, whilst Kylie picked up Best Pop and the Red Hot Chili Peppers received the Best Live Act gong.
Rt Hon Jack McConnell, First Minister, said: “I am absolutely delighted that MTV has chosen Edinburgh to host this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards. This is a fantastic opportunity, not just for the city, but for Scotland to show the world why we are a major force in hosting top class events.”
Councillor Steve Cardownie said: “Edinburgh is proud to host Europe’s ‘music Oscars’. The combination of MTV and Edinburgh is certain to have exciting and electrifying results as we are both world leaders. MTV leads the music world whilst Edinburgh leads the world in knowing how to put on a good party… Being able to showcase our stunning architecture, unique history and vibrant lifestyle to one billion viewers is a fantastic opportunity. I cannot wait for the party to begin.”
