Red Hot Chili Peppers prank: Chad Smith once peed on Foo Fighters drummer during gig

Two acts toured with Blink-182 across Australia in 2000

Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker has recalled a gross moment from his band’s 2000 Australian tour with Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters.

The three acts shared a bill as part of the touring Big Day Out festival in 2000, with Barker referring to a prank that Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith pulled on his Foo Fighters counterpart Taylor Hawkins.

Speaking to radio station KROQ in Los Angeles at Weenie Roast festival last weekend (May 14), Barker told a story of how Smith once urinated onto Hawkins’ onstage electric fan that the drummer would use to keep cool.

“When we were in Australia, Chad Smith would pee in Taylor Hawkins’ fan,” Barker remembered. “It was the worst practical joke ever. I don’t think he’d appreciate if I peed on his fan but if I can get onstage then I’ll try.”

Watch Barker discuss the incident at the 7.05 mark in the video below.

Red Hot Chili Peppers recently announced details of their new album ‘The Getaway’ and shared its first single ‘Dark Necessities’.

‘The Getaway’, their first record since 2011’s ‘I’m With You’, will be released on June 17. It was produced by Danger Mouse and mixed by Radiohead‘s Nigel Godrich.

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ frontman Anthony Kiedis was also diagnosed with intestinal flu over the weekend but is expected to make a full recovery.

Meanwhile, Blink-182 will release new album ‘California’ on July 1. It’s their first release without co-founding frontman Tom DeLonge.
