Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea entertains crowd with handstands as band’s show cuts out after one song

It was the group's first Tasmania show of their career

Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ concert in Australia was hit by a power cut earlier today after the band performed their opening track, ‘Can’t Stop’.

The California rockers took to the stage for their first-ever gig in Tasmania tonight (February 17). After jamming out an instrumental intro, Anthony Kiedis and co. played the 2002 hit. During the following song – ‘Pea’ from ‘One Hot Minute’ – the Hobart show came to a halt.

According to Tasmania newspaper The Mercury, Flea took it upon himself to perform handstands to entertain the waiting crowd during the 15-minute glitch.

“I’d hate to be the person responsible for the power cutting out on the RHCP,” one fan tweeted of the technical mishap. Another said: “Having some significant tech issues in Hobart. But Flea is still a god.”

The band went on to perform a 21-song set at the Derwent Entertainment Centre venue, airing the likes of ‘Under The Bridge’, ‘By The Way’, ‘Give It Away’, and ‘Dani California’.

Announcing the date last year, the Chilis said: “The fact that we get to play in Tassie for the first time makes this tour even more special.”

Meanwhile, Red Hot Chili Peppers recently teamed up with Post Malone for a collaborative performance at the Grammys.

The appearance began with Malone playing ‘Stay’ by himself on an acoustic guitar. He then moved to a tunnel connecting to another stage to begin ‘Rockstar’. By the time he reached the main stage, RHCP launched into their own song, ‘Dark Necessities’.

Last month, the band updated fans on the progress of their new album – the follow-up to 2016’s ‘The Getaway‘.
