REEF, The Offspring and Terrorvision are the latest acts tipped to play the Reading and Leeds 99 festivals (August 28-30).
Already slated to appear at the twinned festival are The Charlatans, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam. Organisers, the Mean Fiddler have not yet confirmed the bill but promise the full line-up will be revealed at the end of April before tickets go on sale. They are currently in negotiation with West Yorkshire Police over the organisation of Leeds 99 at Temple Newsam Park. A Caribbean carnival is held in the Chapeltown area of the city every year on the August Bank Holiday weekend and the two parties are said to be discussing the policing problems involved.
A spokesman for Mean Fiddler said: “These negotiations are purely of a financial nature.”
Meanwhile, Reef, who played a two-song acoustic set in London’s Leicester Square last week (March 29) to promote a new Internet record shop, will play MTV’s Exclusive Urban Festival at London Shepherd’s Bush Empire on May 14.
Support on the night comes from A.
Other bands playing the six-day event are Suede (May 9), Ocean Colour Scene and Travis (12) and Supergrass (13).
Last year’s event featured Placebo, Ash, The Smashing Pumpkins and Gomez, along with teenyboppers 5ive and B*Witched.
A full line-up and hotline number for tickets will be revealed in next week’s NME, out in London on Tuesday and across the UK from Wednesday.
