The band roll out the hits at Carling Hammersmith Apollo - and throw in a few rarities and an anti-war protest too...

REM marked the first UK show of their current world tour with a fan-friendly set in LONDON on Saturday (February 19).

The band played to a sold-out crowd at Carling Hammersmith Apollo. As well as rolling out all the big hits like ’Everybody Hurts’ and ’Losing My Religion’, the American rockers also revisited many rarities in their back catalogue. The highlight for many hardcore fans was the surprise inclusion of ’Swan Swan H’ from the 1986 album ’Lifes Rich Pageant’. Another surprise was the choice of three songs from the 1996 album ’New Adventures In Hi-Fi’ – ’Undertow’, ’Departure’ and ’Electrolite’.

Before the double whammy of anti-war songs from current album ’Around The Sun’ -’I Wanted To Be Wrong’ and ’Final Straw’ – the lyrics were scrolled on the screens around the stage.

The set was:

’I Took Your Name’

’The Outsiders’

’Seven Chinese Brothers’

’High Speed Train’

’Everybody Hurts’

’Electron Blue’

’Leaving New York’

’I’ve Been High’

’Orange Crush’
