REM vocalist MICHAEL STIPE has contributed the artwork to the forthcoming album by GRANT LEE BUFFALO singer GRANT-LEE PHILLIPS.

Phillips’ second solo album, ‘Mobilize’, is released in the US on August 14.

Stipe is a longtime friend of Philips, and invited Grant Lee Buffalo to open for REM on part of their ‘Monster’ world tour in 1995.

He has submitted a selection of photos taken in his native Athens, Georgia, earlier this year for the ‘Mobilize’ artwork.

The photographs are available on the official REM website, www.remhq.com.

Speaking about the images, Philips said: “Michael Stipe has long spent his off hours with a camera in hand. From the first whispers of ‘Murmur’ to the brilliant new ‘Reveal’, Michael’s unique filmic perspective has played a significant role in shaping the visual world of REM for over two decades.

“Settling in to the casual rhythm of Athens for a weekend, Michael was able to coax a more candid profile out of me than I might have offered the camera in some formal setting. We shot over the course of a few days, in between buckets of rain, and barrels of coffee.”
