The band will be joined by Mel B and The Corrs at the free concert...

REM, THE CORRS and MEL B have been confirmed to appear at a free concert in LONDON’s TRAFALGAR SQUARE later in the month.

The charity event, called ‘South Africa’s Freedom Concert On The Square’ takes place on April 29, and marks the seventh anniversary of South Africa’s Freedom day – the day the country’s first democratic elections took place in 1994.

The show is REM‘s only confirmed UK live appearance so far this year, and will roughly coincide with the release of the band’s forthcoming album ‘Reveal’, which is released on May 14.

Other acts confirmed to appear at the event include Eurythmics guitarist Dave Stewart ‘and friends’ – thought to be former All Saints‘ Nicole and Natalie Appleton, Atomic Kitten and Beverley Knight.

Rumours are already circulating that Nelson Mandela and UK Prime Minister Tony Blair will attend the concert.

Fans wishing to attend the concert, which will begin at 4.30pm in the afternoon, should ring the free ticket hotline on 0906 617 2904.
