The guitarist takes to the road with Minus 5 before REM's new album comes out...

PETER BUCK is to take time out from REM to tour with his ‘other band’, MINUS 5, in March.

According to Billboard in the US, the REM guitarist will join Minus 5 on a short, four-date tour, prior to the release of REM’s new album, ‘Reveal’, in May.

In a statement released to the US press, Buck said: “Usually at this time of year I go on a tri-state killing spree, but this year I decided to go on tour with the Minus 5.”

Minus 5 will play at:

Los Angeles Knitting Factory (March 1)

San Francisco Bottom Of The Hill (3-4)

New York Mercury Lounge (12)

Minus 5 are the brainchild of sometime REM collaborator Scott McCaughey, who works with a pool of musicians including Buck and The Posies’ guitarist Jon Auer.

REM have just completed their new album, and premiered two new songs, ‘She Just Wants To Be’ and ‘The Lifting’, at their show at the Rock In Rio festival in Brazil earlier in the month. REM mainman Michael Stipe has previously hinted that there will be no REM world tour in 2001.
