STIPE’S VOICE OF REASON

The R.E.M frontman has recorded a voiceover for Witness...

R.E.M frontman Michael Stipe has narrated a video for international human rights group Witness, detailing civil rights abuses in Guatemala.

The singer has recorded a voiceover for the documentary ‘A Massacre Remembered’, to help Witness, an organisation which works with human rights groups across the world, training them in video and investigation techniques.

The short film highlights the slaughter of 250 members of the country’s Maya Achi tribe, 100 of them children, by the country’s civil police force in 1982.

Stipe is the latest star to throw his weight behind Witness. Lou Reed, Peter Gabriel, Laurie Anderson and actor Tim Robbins have also lent their support.
