Colombian festival cancelled after Rihanna reportedly pulls out over Zika fears

Lana Del Rey, Wiz Khalifa and Disclosure had all been booked to perform at the event

The first ever Lollapalooza Colombia festival has been cancelled after its headline act, which had yet to be announced, pulled out at short notice.

Though Lollapalooza has not named the headline act who dropped out, Variety is reporting that local news outlets in Colombia are claiming it was Rihanna, who is said to have cancelled her set because of concerns over the Zika virus.

After Brazil, Colombia has reported the second most cases of the virus, which is suspected of causing babies to be born with under-developed brains.

Lollapalooza Colombia said in a statement on its website: “The organisers wish to express their deep appreciation to all the fans who supported the festival since day one, as well as the sponsors and the media partners. Wee hope to return in the future to realise this first edition of Lollapalooza in the country.”

Lana Del Rey, Wiz Khalifa and Disclosure had all been booked to perform at the Colombian spin-off of the popular Chicago-based festival, which was due to take place in Bogota from September 17-18. Ticket holders are now being offered full refunds.

Rihanna is currently on her ‘Anti World Tour’, which will return to the UK for a pair of sets at V Festival in August.
