Singer is the victim of latest celebrity "swatting" prank
Rihanna has found herself at the centre of a bogus phone call claiming two armed men had broken into her home and shots had been fired.
LA Police were called to the singer’s Pacific Palisades home yesterday afternoon (April 4), reports gossip website TMZ. After searching the mansion, detectives found no evidence of criminal activity or a shooting. A police source said they are taking the incident very seriously and intend to prosecute the perpetrator to the fullest extent of the law once they are tracked down.
This latest case of celebrity “swatting”, which sees pranksters call 911 to request a large police response at a celebrity’s house, in the hope that a Swat team will turn up on the doorstep, comes just one day after more than a dozen police cars and two helicopters swarmed on P Diddy’s Los Angeles home after they received a hoax phone-call also informing them that someone had been shot inside the property. Comedian and actor Steve Carell’s home which is next door was also searched.
Other celebrities who have been on the receiving end of a celebrity “swatting” include Rihanna’s boyfriend Chris Brown, Paris Hilton and Tom Cruise.
