US network Fox will air behind the scenes look this May
Rihanna is set to take fans behind the scenes of her ambitious ‘777’ tour as part of a new TV documentary.
The TV show will show viewers behind the scenes as the ‘Diamonds’ singer visited seven countries in seven days as she promoted her latest studio album ‘Unapologetic’. Joining Rihanna on the flight were 150 journalists and competition winners who were given the chance to get up close and personal with the pop superstar. A press release for the documentary reveals viewers will get, “an inside look at the singer’s ambitious and often turbulent tour, from the sound of popping champagne corks on the plane to the backstage chaos to the singer’s special worldwide appearances”.
The tour became embroiled in controversy, however, as journalists were denied access to Rihanna and became increasingly frustrated as to the purpose of their stay on the tour. This frustration boiled over with one Australian passenger on the plane stripping naked and streaking down the aisle. The Rihanna special will air on US TV channel Fox on May 6, a date and broadcaster for the UK has yet to be revealed.
Meanwhile, Rihanna recently cancelled a second show in the US last night (March 12) after being diagnosed with laryngitis. The singer had already axed a show in Boston on March 11 after falling ill and she did the same for her Baltimore gig the night before. A statement from promoters Live Nation said Rihanna is “still recovering” and suggested fans hold onto their tickets “pending rescheduling show date information”.
‘Unapologetic’ topped both the US and UK charts upon its release in November 2012. The album features the singles ‘Diamonds’ and ‘Stay’ featuring Mikki Ekko.
