Rihanna to headline Glastonbury?

The 'Diamonds' singer is reportedly in talks to headline the Sunday night on the Pyramid Stage

Rihanna is reportedly in talks to headline the Pyramid Stage at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

According to the Daily Star On Sunday, the ‘Diamonds’ singer is apparently being lined up to follow in the footsteps of Beyonce – who headlined the Pyramid Stage on the final night of the 2011 festival – by closing this year’s Glastonbury. It is unlikely that Rihanna will perform on the Sunday as she is playing her own gig in Zurich, Switzerland that night. She does, however, have a date free on the Friday (June 28).

A source told the tabloid newspaper: “She is the perfect choice. Beyonce stole the show two years ago and there’s no reason why Rihanna can’t do the same. She’s got a huge back-catalogue and is undoubtedly the biggest female artist around at the moment bar Adele.”

The singer has previously declared an interest in playing the June festival. Back in 2011, she told Q magazine: “I have heard so many things about what happens there. I love rock music. I love Kings Of Leon and The Prodigy. The music is awesome. I like the more traditional rock bands, too – Aerosmith and Bon Jovi. I think I could rock Glastonbury, no question.”

Rihanna joins The Rolling Stones as a rumoured headline act for this year’s Glastonbury. However, it was recently confirmed that Daft Punk will not be performing despite ongoing rumours.

Meanwhile, This year’s Glastonbury festival is to be live streamed for the first time with viewers able to watch different stages as they happen. The BBC will use the latest digital technology to allow viewers to choose from simultaneous live streams from all the major stages.
