Rihanna is apparently working on two new albums of songs, which may culminate in a double-disc release.
The singer hasn’t released an album since 2016’s ‘Anti‘, and previously stated that she started work on her ninth album just months after her previous offering was released.
A source told Metro: “Rihanna wasn’t happy with how her last album performed – even though she loved how it turned out, she knows she needs a new project full of smash hits to avoid two back-to-back flops.
“She’s currently recording two albums – one full of chart-friendly songs, and another made up of moody and experimental tracks – and is considering releasing a double disc if she feels the songs won’t mesh well on the same album.”
Rihanna has also teased new music in a series of comments to fans on Instagram. One fan wrote: “We want fenty MUSIC,” with Rihanna replying: “She coming sis!”.
Another fan asked Rihanna, “Did u forget abour your music career?”, with the singer responding, “HOW! Y’all would never let me Lolol”.
Last week, Rihanna excited fans by sharing a teasing image across social media – leading to speculation that it could be the release of new music – however it turned out to be a hint for her new Savage x Fenty lingerie line.

It was reported last year that Rihanna had registered two new songs with ASCAP titled ‘Phatty’ and ‘Only One Who Knows’ – which many believe are a sign that new material is coming soon. It was reported that ‘Phatty’ was co-written with reggae artist Buju Banton.
The singer was recently named as one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People, with Adele writing about Rihanna, saying: “I actually can’t remember the first time I met Rihanna; I was probably numb from the shock of it.”
Last month, Rihanna was also named as the first female artist to surpass 2 billion streams on Apple Music.
The streaming giant shared their list of the 20 most streamed women in music for International Women’s Day on Instagram. She landed the top spot, closely followed by Taylor Swift (#2), Beyoncé (#3), and Adele (#5).
