Robbie Williams to challenge Take That with surprise new solo album

Former boyband member will release 'Under The Radar: Volume 1' LP on Monday (December 1)

Robbie Williams has announced that he will release a new album next week, on the same day his former bandmates Take That release their latest record.

Williams announced the news of his surprise album to fans earlier today. Titled ‘Under The Radar: Volume 1′, it will be Williams’ first album since 2013’s ‘Swings Both Ways’. Speaking to his supporters online, Williams admitted that those around him think he’s a “lunatic” to release an album with no promotion.

“I’ll let you into a secret, Guy Chambers isn’t happy with me putting these songs on this album,” Williams says in the video, which can be seen below. “He thinks I’m a lunatic for not putting them on an album that we’ve promoted with TV performances and at radio stations and a big tour. But I’m an impetuous bugger, and I want them out now, now, now!”

Take That’s new album ‘III’ is also released on December 1. ‘III’ was recorded with producers including Greg Kurstin (Lana Del Rey, Lykke Li, Katy Perry), John Shanks (Take That), Stuart Price (Madonna, The Killers) and Jeff Lynne of the band ELO, with work largely taking place at the band’s own studios and London’s Abbey Road Studios.

Take That, now a trio following the departure of Jason Orange earlier this year, tour in 2015. They will play:

Glasgow SSE Hydro (April 28, 30, May 1)
Belfast Odyssey Arena (4/5)
Dublin 3 Arena (8/9)
Birmingham LG Arena (11/14/15/16)
Newcastle Metro Radio Arena (18/19)
Manchester Arena (21-26/28/29)
Sheffield Motorpoint Arena (June 1/2)
London The O2 Arena (4-9/11/12)
