The star echoes the band’s infamous 1985 Live Aid set…

ROBBIE WILLIAMS paid tribute to QUEEN’s legendary performance at the original 1985 LIVE AID concert tonight in LONDON’s HYDE PARK.

The singer covered the band’s ’We Will Rock You’ as 200,000 people at today’s Live 8 clapped along with the trademark drum pattern. Williams was introduced by England football captain David Beckham, who joked that his friend Robbie was a little shy.

The Queen cover opened the singer’s four song set which also featured ’Let Me Entertain You’, ’Feel’ and ’Angels’. As anticipated, ‘Angels’ brought on a mass sing-along amongst the crowd.

The show marked the first time Williams had played in the UK since his landmark gigs in Knebworth. Like many of the day’s stars, he paid tribute to Bob Geldof and also to co-organiser Midge Ure.

The Who and Pink Floyd will take to the stage next before [a][/a] closes the historic gig backed by an all-star band featuring, it is rumoured, both George Michael and Mick Jagger.
