But look out for an unknown pub crooner who's threatening to spoil the party...

Robbie Williams and NICOLE KIDMAN’s campaign for the Christmas Number One starts today (December 10) with the release of their new single ‘SOMETHIN’ STUPID’.

As reported on NME.COM, the track, a cover of the Frank Sinatra and Nancy Sinatra classic, is the hot favourite to become this year’s Christmas Number One, with bookmakers William Hill having made it the runaway favourite for a number of weeks.

A spokesperson for HMV recently commented: “‘Somethin’ Stupid’ has all the elements of a successful Christmas Number One – novelty, hype, office-party sing-along-ability and star quality appeal. Most importantly, it also has excellent timing! The single is released with just two weeks to go to the final chart.”

Elsewhere, pub crooner and relative unknown Gordon Haskell releases ‘How Wonderful You Are’, a song that is being tipped as a good outside bet for the Christmas top spot. According to The Sun newspaper, the track could sell as many as 150,000 copies this week, which could give Haskell a Top Three entry on Sunday (December 16).

Other singles released today include Michael Jackson‘s ‘Cry’, Starsailor‘s ‘Lullaby’, Dido‘s ‘All You Want’ and Emma Bunton‘s ‘We’re Not Gonna Sleep Tonight’. All are expected to be high chart entries this coming Sunday (December 16).
