The singer fancies himself as a modern-day Ol' Blue Eyes...

ROBBIE WILLIAMS is planning to release an album of FRANK SINATRA-style big band cover versions, NME.COM can reveal.

The singer fancies himself as a modern British version of Ol’ Blue Eyes and plans to record some Sinatra songs for the covers album.

Robbie has already recorded a version of Frank Sinatra‘s ‘Have You Met Miss Jones?’, which appeared on the soundtrack album to ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’. But now he wants to record a whole album of big band numbers.

A source at record label EMI told NME.COM: “Robbie won’t be releasing the follow-up to ‘Sing When You’re Winning’ until 2003, but in the meantime he’s going to record an album of big band songs, people likeFrank Sinatra. It should be out late this year or early next year.”

Robbie‘s cover of Queen‘s ‘We Are The Champions’ features on the soundtrack of new movie ‘A Knight’s Tale’. His next single, released on July 9 to coincide with a UK tour, is a double A-side featuring new song ‘Eternity’ and album track ‘The Road To Mandalay’.
