Robbie Williams‘ new single ‘ROCK DJ’ has been universally slammed by readers of nme.com.
Eighty per cent of readers who emailed following the single’s premiere on BBC Radio One last Friday (June 30) thought the track – a curious mix of Ian Dury-like delivery and ‘Relax’ by Frankie Goes To Hollywood bass – was a stinker.
“EVIL! EVIL! EVIILLLLL!!!!” wrote a vitriolic Rob Clark. “More bland shit which will doubtless go in at No.1 and stay there for the next 26 weeks.”
It was a point echoed by Simon Fullard who declared, “I’ve listened to it twice and still can’t find a tune. No doubt it’ll go to number one. Awful.”
Shayne Cochrane a student from Christchurch in New Zealand felt it “too boring for words – except these ones,” while Gemma in Southampton felt it was “worse than the thought of sleeping with [camp game show host] Dale Winton“. Babynothing of Kent thought it was “complete and utter rubbish, clearly the worst single EVER!!! It just sounds like he’s saying lines from other songs!!!” and Ian Plec of Coventry rounded off the litany of abuse comparing it to the sound of Lieutenant Pigeon (the 1970s one-hit wonders who scored a chart topper with ‘Mouldy Old Dough’) adding that it was worse.
However there were a few positive noises. Catherine Alcock of Cumbria said “its gonna be big!” , while fan Janette Sewell of London concluded it was “exactly like the title – it rocks”) Exactly what to expect from Mr Williams!”
Robbie is now offering fans the opportunity to not only hear the track but see a video commissioned solely for his website. To see and hear ‘Rock DJ’ [url=]Click Here..
‘Rock DJ’ is released through EMI on July 31.
