Robbie Williams scores his third Number One with 'Rock DJ'...

There were no surprises at the top of the UK singles chart tonight (August 6) as Robbie Williams‘ new single ‘ROCK DJ’ stormed straight to the top.

Despite being out of the country for the entire first week of the single’s release – on his much-publicised holiday with Geri Halliwell – there was little doubt that Robbie would breeze easily into the Number One position, having sold 110,000 copies by Thursday last week. The single’s controversial video, which was initially banned by BBC bosses for its extended scenes which feature the star stripping right down to the bone, also undoubtedly helped matters. It is Robbie’s third Number One, following in the footsteps of ‘Millennium’ and ‘She’s The One’.

Recent NME cover star Craig David was nudged into the Number Two position after just one week at the top, and there was another new entry at Number Three for Storm with ‘Time To Burn’.

Indie faves Mansun will also be celebrating tonight, their comeback single ‘I Can Only Disappoint U’ rocketing into the Top 10 at Number Eight. Though whether champagne corks will be popping or not is uncertain, the band having told Radio One last week that half of them had given up boozing.

In the albums chart, the battle of the Irish pop titans saw Ronan Keating triumphantly knocking The Corrs‘In Blue’ into the Number Two slot with his solo album, ‘Ronan’.
