‘KIDS’ ROCK

nme.com's chart update sees Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue take on U2...

U2 and Robbie Williams & Kylie Minogue go head to head in the battle of this week’s big single releases – with WILLIAMS & MINOGUE looking almost certain to be Number One this coming Sunday (October 15).

U2 release ‘Beautiful Day’, the first single from their forthcoming album ‘All That You Can’t Leave Behind’ today (October 9) through Island, while Williams & Minogue release their duet ‘Kids’ – which features on both of their most recent albums.

A spokesperson for HMV in London told nme.com that he anticipated Robbie & Kylie to be top of the charts this coming Sunday (October 15).

He said: “They should just about do it. U2 will sell really well, but they are more of an ‘album’ band these days, whereas Robbie never seems to sell less than 100,000.

“Given the added promotion with his UK tour, and the fact it is a duet with Kylie Minogue, it is almost a dead cert to go to Number One.”

He added that even if this week’s Number One, All Saints‘Black Coffee’, managed to sell as well as it has been, it is unlikely to challenge Williams.

Other releases this week come from Muse, who were NME Single Of The Week with the re-released ‘Muscle Museum’, Jamelia, who releases ‘Boy Next Door’ from her album ‘Drama’, and Teenage Fanclub, who return after a long break with ‘I Need Direction’.

Perhaps the oddest single to be released this week comes from ex-‘Big Brother’ contestant Nichola Holt, who releases a dance track called ‘The Game’.
