Robert Plant announces new album and UK tour

The Led Zeppelin frontman will release 'Lullaby and…The Ceaseless Roar' on September 8

Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant has announced details of a new album with his band The Sensational Shape Shifters.

‘Lullaby and…The Ceaseless Roar’ will be released on September 8. Produced by Plant, it features 11 new recordings, nine of which are songs written by Plant with the rest of the band. The first single from the album, ‘Rainbow’ will be released this summer.

It is Plant’s first record since 2010’s ‘Band Of Joy’, which followed 2007’s collaboration with Alison Krauss, ‘Raising Sand’. The all-new lineup of the band features Justin Adams, John Baggot, Juldeh Camara, Billy Fuller, Dave Smith along with Cast guitarist Liam ‘Skin’ Tyson.

“It’s really a celebratory record, powerful, gritty, African, Trance meets Zep,” Plant says. “The whole impetus of my life as a singer has to be driven by a good brotherhood. I am very lucky to work with The Sensational Space Shifters. They come from exciting areas of contemporary music…I have been around awhile and I ask myself, do I have anything to say? Is there a song still inside me? In my heart? I see life and what’s happening to me. Along the trail there are expectations, disappointments, happiness, questions and strong relationships…and now I’m able to express my feelings through melody, power and trance; together in a kaleidescope of sound, colour and friendship.”

Plant and his band have also announced a UK and Ireland tour for later in the year. The band will play 13 dates on the stretch including Newport, Bournemouth, London, Hull, Leeds, Newcastle, Dublin and Blackpool. Before then, they will play Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage on Saturday (June 28) at 5.30pm.
