Veteran singer enjoyed his stovies
Rod Stewart has fallen in love with one of Scotland’s traditional dishes – stovies.
The rock star was dining out at a visit to Dundee United‘s Tannadice ground when he was served the delicacy by the team cook Gordon Milne.
Stovies consist of fried onions in beef dripping, with potatoes and corned beef, but can also include sausages or mince in different regions.
Milne later sent Stewart the recipe, but omitted his special secret ingredient from the instructions.
Speaking to BBC News, the chef said: “He was in the boardroom and we had stovies in the boardroom that night and that’s where he got a taste for them.
“I don’t suppose he’s had stovies before, he was just hungry that night and he got a plate of stovies and he thought they were fantastic.”
Although brought up in London, Stewart, as suggested by his surname, has Scottish roots.
