Run The Jewels attacked onstage during SXSW performance – watch

The hip hop duo were playing a show at Spotify House in Austin, Texas

Hip-hop duo Run The Jewels were attacked during a performance at SXSW festival in Austin, Texas yesterday (March 16).

During their show at Spotify House, a man walked onto the stage mid-set and seemingly attempted to punch rapper Killer Mike. El-P later tweeted: “thanks to everyone who watched us rock the @Spotify house! sorry for the brief interruption.”

The duo and their security removed the man from the stage, but reports and video footage suggests that he then attempted to fight members of the audience. Scroll down to watch fan shot footage of the incident. “Your mamma should be ashamed you were born,” said Mike of the attacker, before leading the crowd in a chant of “fuck boy”.

Meanwhile, Run The Jewels look to be teaming up with Massive Attack. El-P recently took to Twitter to write: “in the studio with massive attack right now. so… no big deal or anything. not bragging a lot. just talking here.” His counterpart Killer Mike, meanwhile, posted a photo to Instagram of the pair with members of the trip-hop outfit.

El-P also recently took to Instagram to share clips from ‘Meow The Jewels’, the duo’s upcoming cat remix version of their 2014 album ‘Run The Jewels 2’. The producer and MC – who in 2013 formed the group alongside Killer Mike – also revealed via Twitter that the project will feature internet sensation Lil Bub, a three-year-old cat known for her unique appearance. Lil Bub will now line up with a group of collaborators that includes Portishead’s Geoff Barrow, Boots and Dan The Automator.

Captioning one of the videos, El-P wrote,”oh my god what am I doing with my life”, later posting on Twitter his relief that the album’s proceeds are going to charity, “because meow the jewels is going to be the single silliest fuckin record ever recorded”.

Run The Jewels performed at this year’s NME Awards, which was held at Brixton Academy in London last month.
