Run The Jewels have launched their own campaign to get votes for the NME Awards with Austin, Texas, where they have been nominated for Best Album.
Killer Mike and El-P have posted a video online – which you can watch above – which sees the duo asking fans to vote for them in their category. “As you know, Run the Jewels are blowing the fuck up,” reads the video’s caption. “Winning Album of the Year at the NME Awards could be the next jewel in the crown. YOU have the power to further their plan for world domination. Vote here, vote now and vote often. You and all your jewel running friends. To be honest, the process is a slight pain in the ass but you can do it. We know you can. Voting ends January 30th!!”
Run The Jewels will also be performing at the NME Awards with Austin, Texas alongside fellow live acts The Vaccines and Royal Blood. The NME Awards takes place on February 18 at London’s O2 Academy Brixton. You can vote in the awards by clicking here.
The LP ‘Run The Jewels 2’ is up against releases from Jamie T, St Vincent, Royal Blood and Kasabian. Killer Mike recently told NME: “I can’t say honestly in my heart of hearts that I want anyone else to win!”
Run The Jewels have meanwhile confirmed to NME that work on the fan-funded, cat remix version of ‘Run The Jewels 2’, has begun now that they have taken a break from touring. ‘Meow The Jewels’ met its Kickstarter funding target of £24,500 ($45,100) last year. “Meow The Jewels has just started production,” said El-P. “We were handling all of the charitable aspect and getting money to where we had to get it first, and we’ll be making an announcement about that soon.”
When asked how long he expects the whole process to take, El-P said fans will be able to hear a taste of the album in the next couple of weeks. “I’m not sure how long the whole thing will take because it’s not all in my hands – we’ve got a bunch of people and producers on board to make cat noises and I need to wrangle it all together,” he commented. “Everybody announced so far is still involved – Prince Paul, Dan the Automater, Just Blaze, Skywlkr, Baauer, Zola Jesus, Gaslamp Killer and myself. There’s a lot of really amazing people involved – which is ridiculous, considering that if I actually had to make real music then it might have been the greatest album ever made!”
