Russell Brand to host MTV VMAs for a second time

The controversial British comedian will helm the event

Russell Brand will host this year’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), it was announced today (July 14).

The famed British comedian, known primarily to US audiences for his turn as the rock-star boyfriend in the film ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’, will helm the event for a second time. He stirred up controversy last year when he mocked the alleged virginity of teen heartthrobs the Jonas Brothers, as well as the troubled upbringing of the Jackson family.

Brand, who has also hosted the ShockWaves NME Awards Show in 2006, quipped, “This year will be a controversy-free festival of love and discrete orgasms.”

The VMAs will be broadcast live from New York City on September 13. Nominees and performers are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
