The man who duetted with Shaun Ryder on Barcelona aims to bring classical music to a mainstream audience...

Russell Watson, the classical singer who duetted with Happy Mondays vocalist Shaun Ryder on a cover of the track ‘BARCELONA’, has announced details of his own solo tour.

Watson, whose album ‘The Voice’ topped the classical charts, will play: Preston Guildhall (November 27) York Barbican (30) Cardiff St David’s Hall (December 3) Manchester Bridgewater Hall (8)

Watson grew up with Ryder in Salford, and claims to aim to bring classical and operatic music to a mainstream audience. His collaboration with Ryder on the Freddie Mercury/Montserrat Caballe track came about after he performed the track at Manchester United‘s football stadium Old Trafford when the team won the league championship against Tottenham in 1999, shortly before the team were due to head to the Spanish city to contest the European Champions’ League final.
