Ryan Adams announces deluxe reissue of debut album ‘Heartbreaker’

Listen to a bonus outtake from the reissue called 'Locked Away' now

Ryan Adams has announced a deluxe reissue of his debut solo album ‘Heartbreaker’.

The expanded edition, due on May 6, will be available as either a 4LP/DVD package or a 2CD/DVD package. Each will add 20 bonus outtakes and demos to the original 15-track album, which was released in 2000.

Adams has shared one of the deluxe edition’s bonus outtakes, a song named ‘Locked Away’. Listen below.

The DVD contains a concert film of Adams playing acoustically at the Mercury Lounge in New York City in October 2000, during which he performed his popular cover of Oasis‘s ‘Wonderwall’ for the first time.

Ethan Johns, the album’s producer, has written liner notes for the reissue’s booklet.

Adams released ‘Heartbreaker’ in 2000 shortly after he left alt-country band Whiskeytown. The prolific singer-songwriter has released a further 14 studio albums since ‘Heartbreaker’, the most recent of which was last year’s ‘1989’, a track-by-track cover of Taylor Swift‘s Grammy Award-winning album of the same name.

Discussing why he decided the cover Swift’s album in full, Adams compared the singer’s work to that of Shakespeare and The Smiths.

“Look, those songs are popular for a reason,” he added. “She’s a popular artist for a reason.”
