Last week, an exposé saw Adams accused of abuse, manipulation, and sending graphic messages to a minor. Accounts were gathered from seven women, including ex-wife Mandy Moore and Phoebe Bridgers. Bridgers later issued a statement calling on Adam’s ‘network’ or “friends, bands and people he worked with” to be held to account.
“None of them held him accountable,” she said. “They told him, by what they said or by what they didn’t, that what he was doing was okay. They validated him. He couldn’t have done this without them. Guys, if your friend is acting fucked up, call them out. If they’re actually your friend, they’ll listen. That’s the way this all gets better.”
Now Adam’s guitarist Todd Weisenbacker, who is also a member of the band La Sera, has spoken out against Adam’s supposed actions, but claiming that he urged him to seek professional help over his behaviour.
“There were times when I chose to believe his insane version of the truth because it was easier than believing that anyone is capable of being such a monster,” he wrote on Instagram. “It sickening and embarrassing.”
He continued: “I’ve recently learned that pretty much everything he’s ever told me is a lie upon a lie. There are excuses and denials for everything.
“Some time ago, I told him to get help and he asked me to help him. I don’t regret and will never regret trying to help someone in real need. I believe in forgiveness, redemption and recovery, but my life has become a complete shitstorm of someone else’s utter delusion.”
Weisenbackr added: “I didn’t want to say anything because I’m actively afraid for the safety of my family, but I do realise that I have a responsibility to speak up. The women that spoke up are brave beyond words.”
Collaborator Jenny Lewis also said that she was ‘deeply troubled’ by the accusations against Adams, and spoke of her ‘solidarity’ with the victims. Ex-wife Mandy Moore has been open about how she felt “like she was drowning” in their “unhealthy relationship” in a new interview.
Last week, Adams denied the “extremely serious and outlandish accusations” in a statement released by his lawyer Andrew B. Brettler. He said they were “grousing by disgruntled individuals” who blamed him for “personal or professional disappointments.”
It was also reported that Adams may now also be facing a criminal investigation from the F.B.I over the allegations, one of which was said to have included an inappropriate relationship with a young fan.
