Saint Etienne’s Sarah Cracknell announces solo album ‘Red Kite’ featuring Nicky Wire

It's the first solo album from Cracknell since 1997's 'Lipslide'

Saint Etienne singer Sarah Cracknell has announced the details of her second solo album.

The album, titled ‘Red Kite’, will be released on June 15 via Cherry Red. It’s the first solo album from Cracknell since 1997’s ‘Lipslide’.

The singer’s new single ‘On the Swings’ has been unveiled, streaming below, and is the opening track to the new album, which has been produced by Carwyn Ellis (Colorama, Edwyn Collins) and Seb Lewsley (Edwyn Collins). Guest appearances on the album include Nicky Wire of Manic Street Preachers and The Rails.

In a press release, Cracknell lists her influences on the album: the likes of the Beach Boys, Felt, Ennio Morricone, Joe Meek, Marianne Faithfull and more.

“We were drawn to records where the productions are properly out there; records where an odd instrument or noise sits right at the top of the mix and becomes the hook,” she said.

The tracklisting for ‘Red Kite’ is:

‘On the Swings’
‘Nothing Left to Talk About’ [ft. Nicky Wire]
‘In the Dark’
‘Ragdoll’
‘Underneath the Stars’
‘Hearts Are For Breaking’
‘Take the Silver’ [ft. the Rails]
‘The Mutineer’
‘I Close My Eyes’
‘It’s Never Too Late’
‘I Am Not Your Enemy’
‘Favourite Chair’

Cracknell will be touring the UK this summer. She will play:
