British singer also performed songs by Elvis Presley, Marvin Gaye and Chic

Sam Smith covered songs by Amy Winehouse and Elvis Presley at his recent Lollapalooza set.

The British singer was performing at the Chicago festival on Saturday (August 1), dedicating a rendition of Winehouse’s ‘Tears Dry On Their Own’ to the late singer.

Winehouse passed away aged just 27 in July 2011 from alcohol poisoning.

Following Smith’s Winehouse cover, the star was joined by backing performers, running through a medley of Motown hits followed by Chic‘s ‘Le Freak’. He also briefly covered Presley’s ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’.

The two acts had previously teamed up for the breakthrough hit ‘Latch’. It peaked at Number 11 on the UK’s Official Singles Chart in late 2012 and climbed to Number Seven in the US over 18 months later after becoming a sleeper hit there.

‘Caracal’ will also feature guest spots from Lorde, The Weeknd, Miguel, Kwabs and more. It follows on from 2013 chart-topping debut ‘Settle’.
