Speaking to NME last month, the 22-year-old dismissed rumours that he would be following in Adele’s footsteps by recording a Bond theme. “No, I have no idea what that was about and I know as much as you do,” Smith said. “You probably know more than me; I didn’t even read the article.”

He continued, “I think it’s something everyone would love to do, but yeah, it was all news to me. I won’t say any more on it.”

Earlier this year, Smith made US chart history by selling 166,000 copies of his debut album ‘In The Lonely Hour’ and scoring the best-selling week of any UK male singer since Soundscan started tracking sales data 23 years ago. The LP, however, did not reach number one on the Billboard chart. Instead, Lana Del Rey’s second album, ‘Ultraviolence’, claimed the top spot, selling 182,000 copies.
