Rapper doesn’t preview any new material during first show for two years
Santigold vowed her new album will be released “so soon” as she played her first show for two years at New York’s Williamsburg Music Hall last night (May 14).
The rapper has taken time away from music to raise her 13-month-old son Radek.
During the show, Santigold said: “I will have an album out this year, I promise. We will be back so soon.” She added: “My new album is pretty much done. This is, like, my first show since having a baby. I forgot I have to be in much better shape.”
Santigold didn’t preview any new songs at the show, at which she was backed by a DJ and her regular backing dancers, SG1. Instead, she played songs from her two albums ‘Santogold’ and ‘Master Of My Make Believe’, including the rarely-played ‘My Superman’.
The show ended with a battle to see who could best lip-sync Santigold’s lyrics. The six contestants were divided into three pairs, with a woman miming ‘Lights Out’ declared the winner. An SG1 dancer jokingly pulled the final pair of contestants off the stage with Santigold’s gold cape after they were booed by the crowd.
Although Santigold hasn’t released any music since ‘Master Of My Make Believe’, she did guest on ‘Hell’ on A$AP Rocky’s 2013 debut album ‘Long. Live. A$AP’. She will appear at Latitude Festival in July.
