Listen to cover of Joey Ramones' 'I Got Knocked Down (But I'll Get Up)' now
School Of Seven Bells are to release the final song they worked on with Benjamin Curtis before he passed away last year.
Curtis died in December 2013, aged 35, after a year-long battle with cancer. He recorded a cover of Joey Ramones’ ‘I Got Knocked Down (But I’ll Get Up)’ with his bandmates using a laptop while receiving medical care in New York’s Memorial Sloan-Kettering hospital.
The song will be accompanied by a video made by friends of the band Toby Halbrooks and Alan Del Rio Ortiz, who filmed the clip on a road trip through Joshua Tree National Park and Indio, California. The full song will be released on June 24 with the video following one day later. Listen to a preview above.
Artists including Interpol’s Paul Banks and The Strokes’ Albert Hammond Jr helped to raise funding for Curtis’ treatment prior to his death.
School Of Seven Bells (pictured above, with former bandmate Claudia Deheza) released three albums, most recently ‘Ghostory’ in 2012. Curtis left Secret Machines, the band he played in with his brother Brandon Curtis, in 2007. Before that he featured in groups including UFOFU and Tripping Daisy.
