Original ‘Girl Power’ duo Shampoo have returned from a four-year hiatus with a new album slated for a mid-August release.
‘Absolute Shampoo’ will be the pair’s first full length recording since 1994’s ‘Girl Power’, but since they have parted company with former label Food, the album will distributed only through their website [url=]www.shampoo.org.uk.
As on previous records, Shampoo have worked with Pete Wiggs and Bob Stanley from St. Etienne on ‘Absolute Shampoo’.
Shampoo sold a combined total of two million copies of the albums‘We Are Shampoo’ and ‘Girl Power’ in the mid-’90s. Though they have disappeared somewhat from view in the UK – where their agit-throwaway pop blazed a trail for outfits such as Daphne and Celeste – they remain huge stars in Japan, where they are reported to have sold more records than The Beatles.
