Shaun Ryder and Stacey Solomon releasing ‘Fairytale Of New York’

Pair getting to grips with The Pogues' Christmas song

Shaun Ryder and Stacey Solomon are planning to release a cover of The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl‘s Christmas hit ‘Fairytale Of New York’.

The duo, who recently left the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! jungle, are attempting to bag this year’s Christmas Number One with their version of the 1987 song.

“We’re thinking ‘Fairytale Of New York’,” the Happy Mondays man told BBC Breakfast. “We probably shouldn’t because the original is so good. But you can’t help meddling.”

They haven’t revealed a release date for the song, but they’ll have to have it out in the next few days if they want a chance at being Number One for Christmas Day. This year’s Christmas Number One will be decided on Sunday (December 19).

Ryder recently announced that he will play a DJ set at London‘s Matter club on New Year’s Eve. He’s set for a UK tour in February.
