Sir Elton John has spoken out to pay tribute after the death of his mother, Sheila Farebrother.
The singer’s mother was aged 92, and her death comes just months after the pair rekindled their relationship. They had been out of touch for seven years due to a family rift.
Taking to Instagram, Sir Elton shared a photo of them together.
“So sad to say that my mother passed away this morning,” wrote Sir Elton. “I only saw her last Monday and I am in shock. Travel safe Mum. Thank-you for everything. I will miss you so much. Love, Elton”
At her 90th birthday party, Ms Farebrother hired an Elton John tribute act to perform. After this, Sir Elton sent her white orchids and they got back in touch for the first time in seven years.
Meanwhile, Elton John and Beyonce are said to be working on new versions of songs from The Lion King for the upcoming live-action remake.
The New York Daily News has reported that the ‘Lemonade’ artist is collaborating with John in the studio on such tracks as ‘Circle of Life’ and ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’. John and Hans Zimmer contributed extensively to the soundtrack of the original 1994 film, with the former reportedly signing a deal with Disney which permits him to reimagine his original songs for the new version of The Lion King.
“The songs will be thread into the storyline,” a source told the Daily News. “It is unthinkable when you have Beyoncé involved not to have her sing some of those iconic hits — and that means huge sales to a new generation. The deal is a huge one and will earn [Elton John] millions at many stages. Obviously he will get a one off licensing deal followed by a cut in royalties from all aspects of the work.”
