Simply Red man joins Liverpool Football Club

Former guitarist signs up for backroom staff role

A former member of Simply Red has joined the staff at Liverpool Football Club.

Guitarist Sylvan Richardson joined the band in 1985, but left two years later.

He has retrained as a masseur, and has just joined the football club’s backroom staff.

“They have been giving me a lot of stick,” Richardson told BBC Sport of his experiences on the team’s current pre-season tour of Switzerland. “Especially [assistant manager] Sammy Lee.”

The move is somewhat ironic as Simply Red frontman Mick Hucknall is a devoted fan of Liverpool‘s bitter rivals Manchester United.
