Skepta, Kano and Charlie Sloth among winners at first ever grime music Rated Awards

Award ceremony also saw performances from Little Simz, Giggs and Kano

Skepta picked up Artist of The Year at the Rated Awards in central London last night (Sep 17).

The new award ceremony for UK urban music took place at Gracepoint, Islington in London. Performances on the evening came from Little Simz, Ghetts, Section Boyz, WSTRN, Bonkaz and violinist Daj Jordan.

Kano (pictured above) closed the ceremony while Giggs (pictured below) surprised the 900-strong crowd with an unscheduled appearance.


Skepta also collected Best Track for his recent single ‘Shutdown’. Radio 1 and 1Xtra DJ Charlie Sloth picked up Best DJ while grime MC Kano won the Legacy Award, a prize voted for by industry insiders to recognise a significant achievement in UK urban music.

Elsewhere, London duo Krept & Konan won Best Project for their debut studio album ‘The Long Way Home’. Released in July, the album features contributions from Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sandé, Rick Ross and Wiz Khalifa.
