'Masochism' is expected to be released this summer
Sky Ferreira will release her new album this summer, with Kanye West collaborator Mike Dean acting as executive producer on the record.
The release of Ferreira’s ‘Masochism’, the follow up to 2013’s ‘Night Time, My Time’ has been a protracted affair with the album put back last year following health issues.
However, in a new interview with Dazed, Ferreira confirms that the album will be released in the summer, though work has not yet been completed. Ariel Rechtshaid (Adele, Beyoncé) is returning as producer alongside executive producer Mike Dean (Kanye West) and Kendrick Lamar producer Rahki.
Dean has acted as executive producer on a number of Kanye West albums, including ‘The Life Of Pablo’ and ‘Yeezus’.
Speaking about the album title, Ferreira says that it was inspired by a dark period on the road. “I started writing the lyrics two years ago when I was touring, and that’s when the name came to me,” she says. “The way I look at it, it’s about going from one thing to another. I’ve learned a lot about myself and my own self-value. Before, in order to feel good about anything there had to be some kind of struggle, a painful way to get to it, otherwise I felt I didn’t really deserve it. Which is a really fucked up way of thinking.”
Ferreira was due to release the follow up to 2013’s ‘Night Time, My Time’ last year but the album failed to materialise. The new album is said to be “more aggressive” than her debut with Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie a collaborator.
Back in 2014 Ferreira revealed a high-quality demo version of new song ‘Guardian’, said to feature on ‘Masochism’. Ferreira posted a studio version of the song at the time.
She has also collaborated with Gillespie on the new Primal Scream single ‘Where The Light Gets In’.
