Sky Ferreira promises new album for 2016: ‘I refuse to put out something that isn’t honest’

Follow up to 'Night Time, My Time' was due out last year

Sky Ferreira has promised fans that she will release her new album in 2016.

Ferreira was due to release the follow up to 2013’s ‘Night Time, My Time’ last year but the album failed to materialise. The new album is titled ‘Masochism’ and is said to be “more aggressive” than her debut with Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie a collaborator.

Offering an update to fans via Instagram last night, Ferreira explained that she will definitely release her album this year and explained that the delay was caused by her not wanting to “compromise” her music.

“I also know I’ve been really vague about my music so I appreciate the patience from some of you,” the singer began. “I’ve been working on it the whole time & in 2016 you will hear it. I refuse to put out something that isn’t honest. It’s not something that I can force out. If I was to do it any sooner I either would have been compromising myself & anyone listening. I would have had to put out music that wasn’t true or a message I would not want to put out into the universe.”

Ferreira continued: “As personal as my music is…the thing that lasts longer than I ever will is my actual “work”. I get the rare opportunity to have people listen & connect to it.I personally think with that comes a responsibility of making something that’s still true to me but still can somehow make someone feel better or less lonely. I can’t do that lying through my teeth.Needs to be the pretty/ugly/everything/nothing. For me, music (as a listener) was the most consistent & personal thing in my life that has helped me or healed me in every situation,to some capacity. If I even have a “goal”…it is to help do that for someone.”

Back in 2014 Ferreira revealed a high-quality demo version of new song ‘Guardian’, said to feature on ‘Masochism’. Ferreira posted a studio version of the song at the time.

An official single from ‘Masochism’ was due for release in August 2015, but was pushed back due to scheduling and health issues. She wrote on her Tumblr at the time that “it is a very big deal” and that she wants the record to be “properly made”.

Since the release of ‘Night Time, My Time’, Ferreira has appeared in Eli Roth film The Green Inferno. The plot is based around a tribe of cannibals and a disastrous activist group’s trip into the Peruvian jungle with Ferreira playing a character called Kaycee.
