Sky Ferreira hits out at label after being “forced” out of her own Soundcloud

"I need it back ASAP"

Sky Ferreira has posted a lengthy attack on her own record label, saying she has been “forced/told I had no choice” to hand over her Soundcloud account.

The musician, actress and model posted a lengthy message on her Instagram account. She said: “I can’t access my own account that I started & uploaded everything myself. I ended up bamboozled. I was forced/told I had no choice to hand over my account information to my label after my album came out.

Hey @soundcloud I can’t access my own account that I started & uploaded everything myself. I ended up bamboozled.I was forced/told I had no choice to hand over my account information to my label after my album came out. They gave me the wrong information & changed it so I can no longer access it. The person who changed the login is unreachable & the contact no longer exist. I need it back ASAP. I earned the hundreds of thousands of people that follow the account without my label & have never had help/paid for anything on social media or whatever. I think of soundcloud as the website that allows musicians to have freedom. Please help xx SKY FERREIRA PS: I would like to clarify I have always done all of my work directly & by myself. No “team” has ever uploaded (or anything else under any circumstance) my stuff for me whatsoever.

Ferreira has been due to release her second album Masochism since 2015, but the process has been repeatedly postponed. In June, also via Instagram, she gave an update to her fans saying “I would just like to clarify for some: my silence should not be confused for negligence.”

She went on to explain: “Anytime I have ever said anything about music being released because I was lead to believe it was happening too. Unfortunate (some absurd) circumstances that were beyond my reach kept it from happening. It is my fault for not saying something sooner & letting it all repeat itself.”

It’s not the first time Ferreira has hit out at her label. In 2015 she called them out, saying “I would have sold more records if I had the resources”. She also accused them of intellectual property theft.

Ferreira was most recently heard on Danish punk band Iceage’s single ‘Pain Killer’. She also recently appeared in a ‘black metal movie’ Lords Of Chaos soundtracked by Sigur Rós.

New music from Ferreira could finally appear this year, with the artist promising a ‘visual EP’ to be released at some point this year.

While Ferreira hasn’t released new music since 2013, she has featured in Twin Peaks, as well as several films including Elvis & Nixon and Baby Driver. She also contributed a cover of The Commodores’ ‘Easy’ to the soundtrack of the latter. Ferreira also recorded collaborations with The Jesus & Mary Chain and Primal Scream.
