Duo have five songs ready for third album
Sleigh Bells have promised that their new album – expected some time this year – will not be “a downer”.
Speaking to Australian radio station Triple J, guitarist Derek Miller said the duo – completed by singer Alexis Krauss – have five songs ready for the new record, which will “be out sooner rather than later”. Previously, the band had expressed their intention to release their third album within three years of the first, 2010’s ‘Treats’. The follow-up, ‘Reign Of Terror’, was released in 2012.
Miller says the new album will be markedly different from ‘Reign Of Terror’, coming from a “different headspace, just more up and positive… not as downer.”
He added: “It’s not as dark… I kind of worked through a lot of difficult stuff on the last record.”
Krauss told the station that the single ‘Comeback Kid’ was the starting point for the new material. “We always reference ‘Comeback Kid’ as being the last song that we recorded and that brought us in a different music direction,” she said.
In December, Krauss joined St Vincent and pop star Cyndi Lauper for a duet of her ’80s hit ‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’ in New York. The live collaboration was part of the ‘Cyndi Lauper and Friends: Home for the Holidays’ concert held at the city’s Beacon Theatre.
