Slipknot walked away with three gongs at this week’s KERRANG! AWARDS – and celebrated by setting fire to their table.
The band, who won Best International Live Act, Single Of The Year with their track ‘Wait And Bleed’ and Best Band In The World, also smashed up chairs and glasses then wrecked the stage after collecting their trophies at the London Hammersmith Palais.
Obviously still in high spirits following their acclaimed sets at last weekend’s Carling Weekend festivals at Reading and Leeds, the group’s high jinks reached a climax when they completely overturned the table where they were sat, much to the amusement of the assorted metallers present.
A food fight then broke out, causing veteran Hollywood actress Britt Ekland to slip on a piece of watermelon and twist her ankle as she took to the stage to present Marilyn Manson with his Hall Of Fame award.
In obvious pain, Ekland was eventually carried to the stage and presented the gong to Manson sat on a chair.
Queens Of The Stone Age collected their award for Best International Newcomer dressed all in white and accompanied by two midgets.
They explained: “It’s a showbiz do, so we’ve come as lines of cocaine.”
Other acts present in the audience included Muse, Mortis, Iron Maiden, Mvtorhead, Napalm Death and Blink 182.
Other winners at the awards, hosted by the UK metal magazine, included 100 Reasons who won Best New British Band, Deftones who walked away with the award for Best Album for their latest release ‘White Pony’, Stereophonics scooped the prize for Best Band, Foo Fighters who won the Classic Songwriter award, Napalm Death who won the Spirit Of Independence award, Blink 182 who won Best Video and One Minute’s Silence who won Best British Live Act. Mvtorhead were also awarded the Silver K for services to metal.
