Slipknot say bassist is ‘on the road to recovery’ after hospitalisation for ‘severe dehydration’

Alessandro Venturella was taken away in an ambulance during the band's gig on Sunday night (August 2)

Slipknot have confirmed that their new bassist Alessandro Venturella is “well on the road to recovery” after he was rushed to hospital mid-way through the metal band’s recent live show in Hartford, Connecticut.

The group played the show in question on Sunday night (August 2) with Venturella exiting the stage mid-set and being rushed away in an ambulance.

With the medical emergency unexplained on the night, the band have now taken to their official Facebook page to clarify matters.

“After a medical emergency during last night’s show, we are relieved to let everyone know that our bass player, Alex ‘V-Man’ Venturella, is well on the road to recovery,” they wrote.

“Alex collapsed mid-set after feeling unwell and as a precautionary measure was taken to hospital where he was found to be suffering from severe dehydration. After recuperating overnight, he has now been discharged from hospital and is on his way back to his Slipknot family.”

Band added: “All being well, Alex will be back onstage with us tomorrow in Mansfield, MA. We thank everyone who reached out with messages and well wishes for Alex and we look forward to be being back at full tilt for the rest of the Summer’s Last Stand tour.”

Slipknot continued to finish their show on Sunday despite the emergency, with frontman Corey Taylor telling the crowd during the show: “I’m going to let you know what’s going on right now. I’m sorry to say that something happened with our bass player Alex. We’re not sure what happened. He’s been put into an ambulance and he’s going to the hospital right now as we speak.”

Taylor continued: “Make some noise for him and send him some fucking love. We had the choice to come back out year. We’ve had to modify some shit but we’re gonna keep on playing for you. It’s what we want, it’s what Alex would want.”

Venturella, a former guitarist for British band Krokodil and guitar tech for Mastodon, joined the band in 2014 along with former Against Me! drummer Jay Weinberg following the death of bassist Paul Gray and departure of drummer Joey Jordison.
