Slipknot’s Sid Wilson gives €100 tip to 70-year-old jazz pianist in Sheffield

DJ also played for small audience on Sheffield bar's piano

Slipknot’s Sid Wilson went to see a 70-year-old jazz pianist play in Sheffield earlier this month, and was so impressed that he gave him a €100 tip.

The DJ was watching pianist Ralph Salt play at Sheffield’s Cubana venue when he was spotted by a member of staff, Blabbermouth reports. The visit would otherwise have gone unnoticed as Slipknot members are rarely seen without their trademark masks.

At the end of the show, Wilson presented Salt with a €100 note, the pianist’s biggest of his career. He then continued to play some songs for the crowd himself on the bar’s piano.

“Sid was a real gentleman and couldn’t have been further removed from his Slipknot persona,” Salt said. “He was very appreciative of my performance and even asked me to play my choice of sentimental song as an encore. I thought a Joe Cocker song was the perfect choice, given his recent passing, and Sid listened intently throughout.

“It’s fair to say I was presented with the biggest tip I’ve ever had in my career and it couldn’t have come from a more unlikely candidate!”

Slipknot launched their first full UK tour for more than six years in Sheffield earlier this month (January 16). The Prepare For Hell Tour was the band’s first run of UK dates with their new touring bass player, British musician Alessandro Venturella. Drummer Joey Jordison, who left Slipknot in 2013, was replaced by Jay Weinberg, son of Max Weinberg, the long-serving drummer in Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band.
