Istanbul leg of Live Earth cancelled

Sources say businesses feared criticism

The Istanbul leg of the Live Earth concerts has been cancelled due to lack of sponsorship support from local business.

According to reports, local businesses were reluctant to become involved with the show, fearing criticism from environmental groups who could accuse their factories of contributing to global warming.

Turkish acts including Sebnem Ferah and Hayko Cepkin were among those who had agreed to play the show, but now the city will feature eight giant screens to show the events happening in the other Live Eart shows around the world.

The number of July 7 shows now stands at eight, with the New York leg featuring performances from a string of major international acts including The Police, Bon Jovi and Smashing Pumpkins.

NME.COM will be reporting live from Live Earth London/ and Live Earth New York on July 7, bringing you all the latest news from the big events.
