Pumpkins up the volume!

Ex-Hole bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur debuts live with Smashing Pumpkins at hometown club show.

Smashing Pumpkins played their first gig with new bass player Melissa Auf Der Maur at the first of two engagements at Chicago’s Metro Club on Monday (December 20).

Auf Der Maur, who recently quit Hole, performed an almost two-hour-long show with the band who showcased material from their forthcoming album, ‘MACHINA/ The Machines Of God’, due for release on February 29.

New songs performed included ‘I Of The Mourning’, ‘Heavy Metal Machine’ and next single ‘The Everlasting Gaze’. The Pumpkins also offered a storming version of the 1973 David Essex hit, ‘Rock On’.

Smashing Pumpkins play the UK on January 21 (Manchester Apollo) and January 22 (London Dominion Theatre) before returning to tour Stateside.
