The Smashing Pumpkins frontman performed new material during a recent acoustic set
Billy Corgan debuted two new songs during a surprise acoustic set in his hometown.
The Smashing Pumpkins frontman performed the previously unheard material together with bandmate Jeff Schroeder at his Madame ZuZu’s teahouse in Highland Park, Illinois.
The two new songs are titled ‘Double R’ and ‘Red Dirt’. Corgan has also previously debuted a third untitled track back in March.
Smashing Pumpkins wrapped up their ‘In Plainsong’ tour last month, having begun a run of acoustic dates in March. The band are now expected to return to the studio to record the follow-up to their 2014 album ‘Monuments To An Elegy’.
Their setlist during the tour included a cover of David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’ and a cover of ‘Malibu’, a song from Hole’s ‘Celebrity Skin’ album that Corgan co-wrote. They were supported on the tour by Liz Phair.
Earlier in the tour, original Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha reunited with the band for the first time in 16 years.
Iha has also been working on a score of James Franco’s forthcoming TV movie Mother, May I Sleep With Danger.
The feature-length film, commissioned by US network Lifetime, is a remake of a cult ’90s TV movie of the same name which starred Tori Spelling and Ivan Sergei.
